I do not sell machine tools!

This past weekend, after a long time, I found myself inside the company’s assembly department.

On a Sunday, with everything turned off and a magical silence.

If you’ve never tried to enter a production department when nobody is there, you can not quite understand the emotion of that place.  I literally grew up there, since my parents’ house, as a quintessential “Bresciana entrepreneurial technique”, is physically right beside the company.  Just hallway away.

This feeling is unique, so I’ll try to explain in a few words what I’m talking about and what I discovered!

The assembly department is the place where as a child I secretly went on Sunday to play the “game of work” pretending to build, invent. Fantasy ran free.

I remember it crowded with machines under construction and mechanical groups ready to be assembled, almost every weekend I could not wait to go back.

I also remember well the many Mondays, when I returned from school, my father’s remarks that made me notice that I had disrupted various tools by rearranging them.

Then the years passed, I remember the golden periods of easy credit, the many leasing, the customers who were literally queuing to buy a transfer machine of the last model with numerical control, always faster and in search of quantity.

Now all those childhood memories have changed. This past weekend, I enter and I find myself in front of machines very different from the transfers that my father built, always machine tools, but of a different kind.

Machines no longer designed to produce the quantities of pieces with more than I can, in fact the number of spindles being processed has decreased considerably.

Even their aesthetic shape has changed: proportions, colors, I remember the green RAL 6011 …

Today they are much friendlier machines, they look reassuring, pleasant.

I find myself wrapped in tranquility, in a silence of a department on Sunday, in the peace of the early afternoon and I realize how much the work that took place between these walls today has changed a lot.

Today the main purpose is no longer “Design and Construct Machine Tools” but, inspired by our current slogan “Changing People Lives in Manufacturing” or, Changing the lives of people in the field of production, obviously implied for the better.

A good challenge … Given the times that run where many people regret the past …

Every day the main goal for which I fight is to commit to making life easier, less complicated for our customers through well thought out and easy to use solutions.

In the company we build an innovative product, the MULTICENTER, a flexible machine suitable for modern methods of producing and facing challenges.

Today, however, the true “product” is not the machine itself.

Anyone can copy and build a machine like ours, our true “product” is the approach we use, as we propose solutions to our customers.

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I SELL?

HERE ARE THE FIRST 5 PRODUCTS I SELL MORE:

  1. NO MORE STOCK.

  1. PRODUCTION CHANGE IN 15 MINUTES.

  1. PRODUCTION OF SMALL/MEDIUM LOTS.

  1. REDUCTION OF SPACE.

  1. FLEXIBILE PRODUCTION.

As you can see, the first 5 products are not the “Machine Tool”, because the MULTICENTER then comes. First you have to start from what you want to solve, then you find the right tool to solve!

ALL MANUFACTURERS OF MACHINE TOOLS,

ONLY WANT TO SELL THEIR MACHINE, THAT’S THAT!

You cannot start from the “Machine” and then hope to solve the problems …

In 2005 I wanted a new vision, slowly I realized that customers were no longer looking for machine builders, but consulting and finding solutions to their problems in a professional way in order to compete in the market.

Changing the company name from PORTA TRANSFER to PORTA SOLUTIONS was the first logical step towards the “SOLUTION” orientation and not the “TRANSFER” machine.

With the crisis of 2008 this trend has undergone a rapid acceleration and more and more I am convinced that having changed the name of the company to PORTA SOLUTIONS was a right choice towards a change that today sees us first in the sector as suppliers of flexible production systems.

The MULTICENTER does not represent a flexible machine in itself, but represents an organizational setting and a way of operating that changes the rules of the game.

As it happens, this new way of working solves the following points that have become more important than ever after the 2008 earthquake.

  1. NO MORE STOCK.

  1. PRODUCTION CHANGE IN 15 MINUTES.

  1. PRODUCTION OF SMALL/MEDIUM LOTS.

  1. REDUCTION OF SPACE.

  1. FLEXIBILE PRODUCTION.
